About Practical Adaptation
Practical Adaptation means the things we do to support our individual and collective resilience in the face of rising uncertainty and disruption, without expectation of particular outcomes.
As collapse unfolds around us, we are learning that adaptation is about more than preparing for future emergencies. It is also about how we live today: how we understand what is happening, how we care for ourselves and one another, and how we find meaning, connection, and purpose in a time of profound uncertainty.
Adaptation takes many forms. Some are tangible, such as enhancing our household preparedness, developing useful skills, and strengthening local networks of mutual aid. Others are personal, emotional, or spiritual: learning to live with uncertainty, confronting grief and loss, and discovering new ways of relating to ourselves, to others, and to the world.
In the Practical Adaptation Community, we explore these possibilities together. Through conversation, shared learning, and practical action, we seek to build the relationships, understanding, and capabilities that can help us navigate the challenges ahead.
