We at Collapse Club take inspiration from Kollapscamp because they have figured out how to connect the "inner work" of collapse acceptance with the "outer work" of action in the world. The summary report from the Kollapscamp of August 2025 said:

From the outset of the organizing process, it was clear that we as a camp could only contribute to the emergence of a solidarity-based collapse movement if we succeeded in creating a stable network between those willing to get their hands dirty in practical work and disaster preparedness...and those whose work is more internal: those who care for trauma and create safe spaces.... We consider this equal connection between internal and external work on a level playing field to be one of the central political axes and innovations of a collapse movement.

In Collapse Club—and in the Deep Adaptation world from which we emerged—we have struggled to understand how action in the world can address our feelings of powerlessness and tragedy. In "Solidarity Prepping" (prepping to ensure the welfare of the community), we find a path to action that grows out of our inner work.

Scully explains that learning new skills can directly and positively affect our emotions. From "Solidarity Prepping is my way into the collapse movement," October 2025:

Emotions often tip the scales and are key to the decisions we make and the things we do. Given the current situation and the ever-increasing number of diverse disasters, we urgently need positive emotions and a sense of achievement that will allow us to persevere and carry on, that will give us strength and power. Learning practical skills, acquiring new knowledge, and, ideally, being able to pass on these skills and knowledge and/or use it for others will trigger plenty of positive emotions that can be tapped into again and again. At the same time, the knowledge of one's own ability to act and effectiveness, as well as being integrated into effective structures, means an increased feeling of security for oneself and one's environment in an increasingly uncertain world.

Tadzio describes his acceptance that collapse is real and devastating, and his choice nevertheless to persevere after the failure of his long-time career in climate activism. From "A Hope That Does Not Glitter," November 2024:

We have to say goodbye to the future. At least to the idea we've had of it so far, the future as a source of what the philosopher Ernst Bloch described as a "utopian flow of warmth." Images of a better life that give meaning to our lives in the present, a vanishing point from the bustle of our everyday activities. As these images of a better future gradually disappear, so does their meaning.
In 2022, it became clear to me that the fight for a global, climate-just, anti-fossil fuel revolution had failed.... The game is over, even if checkmate is still two moves away, I thought. It felt like I only had two options: to continue to suppress the reality of collapse because a world without a future is simply too terrible. Or to acknowledge this reality—and then become depressed because of this acknowledgement. So I've chosen a third option. I want to accept the disaster and deal with it with more solidarity.
I want to be able to create and defend places for a good life, even in the deepest darkness.
I learned that hope, strength, and confidence, just like self-efficacy, do not necessarily come from material success. It arises from social relationships, from the relationships we enter into with the people with whom we strive for a better world.

This is the insight that inspires our Solidarity Prepping Group. The social relationships that we create, both in our online group and in the local efforts that our members undertake, are the goal and fruit of our work. Yes, we learn new and valuable skills, but the real merit of our work is in the connections we make with people from whom we have been separated by our sick and dangerous culture.

Tadzio and Scully are more concrete in their intentions for the "Mutual Aid - H.E.A.T." camp, to be held in September, 2026. They are using their experience as organizers of national-scale protest events to drill down into practical skills that will serve people in real-world disasters. They envision this practical knowledge spreading through a new kind of solidarity, appropriate to the age of collapse. From their invitation, March 2026:

Why? With this event, we aim to move closer to creating structures which enable practical and emotional action in the face of disaster. This requires new formats that go deeper into skills and knowledge. This event is an attempt to learn a new kind of activism – one that recognises collapse brings greater risks, and so it requires more preparation and training than the campaign activism of past decades.
Who? We are planning an event for those who take the threat of collapse and authoritarianism as seriously as we do, who know that the time to prepare for climate disasters, authoritarian takeovers and systemic breakdowns is now, not just in a few years’ time. And we reach out to people who know that preparing for a future of increasing disasters means investing time and resources in this preparation now. We want this event to lead to practical organising,

We will welcome Tadzio and Scully, Saturday 18th April, at 10:00 AM Pacific time, which is ONE HOUR EARLIER than our usual meeting time. Click here for the time in your zone.

In the first half of the meeting, we will hear their presentation and have time for questions and answers. Then, we'll split into two breakout rooms (one with each of our guests) to discuss the particular topics of the camp: 1) Communications, 2) Collective Self-Protection, 3) Food Supply & Logistics, and 4) Medical & Emotional Support. Free registration is required: Click here.

We look forward to an inspiring event! We hope you can join us. The meeting will be recorded and posted soon after the event.
